It’s everything “Hand Made” to order with Tim and his leather working. He does everything from holsters to fit the customers firearm to tool cases and coasters.

When Tim and Cassie Adams purchased the Whiskey Creek Artisans jewelry store, from Roger and Amy Smith an adventure started that just keeps evolving. New items are always being added and new ways of producing products continues to develop.

Daughter, Kaylee, came up with the idea of buying the store. She suggested it to Cassie, who then took the idea home to Tim.

Tim, a retired military man, countered, jokingly, “I’m not buying it unless I can do leather!” and then asked, “Why would we buy a jewelry store?” Neither knew anything about jewelry!

Roger promised to help them do the jewelry end of the business, and he still does all the repair work. His promise to them was, “Don’t worry about it, we’ll teach you.”

“Luckily, Roger’s still fixing jewelry, because we don’t know what to do with it yet. He taught Tim how to do watches. We have people driving in from everywhere because they can’t get a battery changed in a watch, so we do that.”

Tim and Cassie renamed the business The Back Country Trading Post and opened the door to business on May 15, 2021.

Cassie has long been an artisan, working in a good many types of crafts. It wasn’t long before everything had evolved into custom items, giving people options, choices, taking their ideas and incorporating them into many different types of products.

Cassie says, “I’ve done many types of crafts through the years, sewing, leather working, and engraving, for example. I had a little booth over at Elite Repeats when we moved here.”

“Once we got in the Trading Post we were super excited and the leather works just exploded! Literally, we’ve not stopped. Between the custom tee shirts and the hats that I make for people all over, we haven’t had a spare second. These sometimes go for things such as booster clubs, and businesses, that order multiple items.”

The leather work includes custom work, repair work, riveting, sewing, tooling, and more. Tim custom makes holsters, coasters, belts, knife sheaths, you name it does tooling, designing and even bulk orders. Holsters are custom fit to whatever the gun the customer brings in. Designs vary with customers unique needs. Everything ends up being very individualized.

Cassie has a large selection of hoodies. She also does sets of ball caps, tees, key chains, and plaques. There are leatherworks, such as handbags, key fobs, phone cases, door signs, and wallets. The custom hats have leather patches, made by tooling or laser engraving.

Cassie does custom cutting boards with whatever the customer wants put on them.

Different medias include vinyl works, sublimation applications on fabrics (shirts, blankets, and even Maniac socks), laser engraving on wood, glass, and leather.

At Christmas this past year Tim and Cassie were up all hours getting the orders out for the gift-givers.

Both Tim and Cassie were born and grew up in Orofino which makes their return kind of a homecoming.

Tim’s 20-year military career took them away, but they have returned to be near their aging parents and because they enjoy the area. They have three children, Dalton, Kaylie and Shaylen. Dalton graduated with the Maniacs.”

Cassie says, “We moved to California because we were freezing to death. Tim took a job contracting down there on base and then we got to returning to Orofino every couple of weekends.”

“It’s just a great place to live. We just enjoy the area, hunting, camping, fishing, and enjoying the lake.

The Trading Post is located at 206B Johnson Ave. in Orofino. It is a very unique store with something for everyone, especially if you like one-of-a-kind items hand made.
